Guidelines for Article Submissions

Thank you for your interest in contributing to Africa Energy Pulse. We welcome well-argued, insightful opinion articles that add to the discourse on Africa's energy sector. Our goal is to provide a forum for a diverse range of perspectives from experts, practitioners, and policymakers.

1. What We're Looking For

  • Originality: We seek unique insights and fresh angles on current issues. Your article should move beyond a simple summary of events and provide a clear, compelling argument.
  • Expertise: We are looking for writers with a strong background or deep understanding of the topic they are writing about in relation to any of our focus areas.
  • Timeliness: Your piece should be relevant to current events, policy debates, or emerging trends in the African energy landscape.
  • Constructive Viewpoint: While we welcome critical analysis, your article should be constructive and solutions-oriented. It should propose new ideas, challenge conventional wisdom, or offer a path forward.

2. Submission Specifications

  • Length: Articles should be between 800 and 1500 words. We are willing to accept longer pieces if they are exceptionally compelling, offer groundbreaking research, or provide an indispensable, comprehensive guide.
  • Exclusivity: We only consider articles that have not been published elsewhere, including personal blogs, social media, or other news outlets.

Formatting

  • Please submit your article as a Word document. Do not send it as a PDF.
  • Use clear subheadings to break up the text and guide the reader wherever necessary.
  • Do not include footnotes or bibliographies. You may provide a few key links to sources within the text where necessary.
  • Articles must be written in British English, following the same standards of clarity and professionalism as our in-house content.

3. The Article Itself: Structure and Style

  • Strong Opening: Begin with a powerful lead/introduction that hooks the reader and introduces your main argument.
  • Clear Thesis: Your opinion or argument should be clearly stated in the first two paragraphs.
  • Supporting Evidence: Back up your claims with evidence, data, and logical reasoning. While this is an opinion piece, it must be grounded in facts.
  • Conversational yet Authoritative Tone: Write in a way that is engaging and easy to read, without resorting to casual language or academic jargon. Explain any technical terms simply.
  • Anticipate Counterarguments: A strong article acknowledges and, if necessary, refutes common counterarguments.
  • Powerful Conclusion: The final paragraph should offer a memorable takeaway, propose a solution, or leave the reader with a final, thought-provoking question.

4. How to Submit

  • Email: Send your submission to our dedicated email address: africaenergypulse@gmail.com
  • Subject Line: Use a clear subject line that includes the title of your article and your name (e.g., Submission: The Future of Nigeria's Gas Sector - by Kelechi Amadi).

Required Attachments/Information

  • The full article.
  • A brief, one-to-two-sentence bio that includes your current title and any relevant credentials.
  • A statement confirming that the article is exclusive and has not been submitted elsewhere or otherwise.

5. Our Process

If your article is being considered for publication, an editor will contact you within seven business days. If you do not hear from us within that time, you may assume we will not be publishing your piece.
