The partnership aims to add 5 GW capacity, boost energy security, and develop local expertise through scholarships.

The Government of Botswana and India-based KP Group have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly develop large-scale renewable energy generation, energy storage, and transmission infrastructure projects.
Signed between Botswana’s Ministry of Minerals and Energy and KP Group entities — KPI Green Energy Limited, KP Energy Limited and KP Green Engineering Limited — the MoU sets out a framework for collaboration on planning, development and execution of renewable energy projects. The partnership aims to strengthen Botswana’s energy security while positioning the country as a regional exporter of clean power.
Under the MoU, KP Group will lead technical and commercial activities including feasibility studies, financing, construction, commissioning, and long-term operations and maintenance. The projects could involve investments of approximately USD 4 billion and add close to 5 GW of renewable energy capacity.
The agreement also includes a capacity-building initiative, with KP Group supporting 30 annual scholarships for Botswana citizens in renewable energy, engineering, sustainability, and related fields.
Hon Bogolo Joy Kenewendo, Botswana’s Minister of Minerals and Energy, said the agreement represents a meaningful step toward a secure and sustainable energy future, combining clean power deployment with economic growth and workforce development.
Dr Faruk G Patel, Founder and Chairman of KP Group, said the collaboration reflects a shared vision to harness Botswana’s strong solar and wind potential through scalable, sustainable solutions, supporting the nation’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2030 while creating long-term economic value.
