Hassan Allam Utilities secured an EPC contract for a 200 MW solar plant and 120 MWh battery storage project in Benban, supporting Egypt’s renewable expansion targets and grid integration plans.

Egyptian group Hassan Allam Utilities on Monday, February 16, 2026, announced that it has been awarded the engineering, procurement, and construction contract for a 200 MW solar power plant and 120 MWh battery energy storage system in Benban, Egypt.
The project will be developed by Hassan Allam in partnership with Infinity Power, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and Meridiam.
As commercial operations begin in the second half of 2026, the plant will be connected to the grid through the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company with a battery system that will enable a two-hour energy shift to the national grid.
The construction falls under power purchase agreements signed with the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy on November 5, 2025, as part of a broader program covering 1,200 MW of solar capacity and 720 MWh of storage in Egypt.
In addition, the initiative also aligns with national targets to increase the share of renewables to 42% of the electricity mix by 2030 and 60% by 2040.
The decision to award the contract to a local constructor comes as Egypt has recently inaugurated and signed agreements for several photovoltaic component manufacturing units, reflecting the country’s intention to rely on its domestic industry to support its renewable energy ambitions.
