President Tinubu’s nomination of Joseph Tegbe signals a renewed push for power sector reform, as Nigeria seeks stronger leadership to tackle grid instability and attract long-term investment.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power, subject to confirmation by the Senate, in a move aimed at advancing reforms in Nigeria’s struggling electricity sector.
The nomination, transmitted to the National Assembly in line with constitutional provisions, follows the resignation of former minister Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue elective office.
Tegbe, an indigene of Oyo State, brings more than three decades of experience across the public and private sectors, with a background in fiscal policy, institutional reform and governance.
He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led initiatives focused on economic reform and organisational transformation.
He currently holds the position of Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, overseeing efforts to strengthen development cooperation between Nigeria and China.
His track record includes advisory roles on regulatory and investment frameworks within the power sector, working with institutions such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company.
The presidency said the nomination is expected to reinforce ongoing efforts to improve grid stability, deepen sector reforms and attract sustainable investment under the government’s economic agenda.
If confirmed, Tegbe is expected to leverage his experience to address longstanding challenges in electricity generation, transmission and distribution, with a focus on delivering more reliable power supply to Nigerians.
