Angry residents in a Lagos suburb blocked access to Ikeja Electric’s office, blaming the utility company for weeks of darkness that have disrupted businesses and daily life.

Residents of the Agbado area of Lagos State on Wednesday staged a protest at the office of Ikeja Electric over prolonged electricity outages affecting the community.
The protesters, largely women, blocked the entrance to the distribution company’s office while demanding the immediate restoration of power supply to the area.
According to residents, the blackout has lasted for several weeks, disrupting businesses, affecting household activities, and increasing dependence on expensive alternative energy sources.
Some residents accused the electricity distribution company of failing to provide adequate information on the cause of the outage or when supply would be restored.
They also alleged that repeated complaints to the company received little response, prompting the community to organise the protest.
Carrying placards and chanting solidarity songs, the demonstrators called on authorities to intervene and ensure a lasting solution to the electricity crisis affecting the area.
Responding to the protest, officials of Ikeja Electric appealed to residents to remain calm, explaining that the outage was caused by technical faults.
The company said efforts were ongoing to resolve the problem and restore stable electricity supply to affected communities.
The protest spotlights growing frustration among residents in parts of Lagos over persistent electricity supply challenges and the economic strain caused by prolonged blackouts.
