The $13.5 million programme will run from 2026 to 2030, seeking to reduce industrial emissions while improving energy efficiency in major industries.

The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has joined forces with the Moroccan Agency for Energy Efficiency (AMEE) in a recent agreement to accelerate industrial decarbonisation in Morocco.
The $13.5 million programme will run from 2026 to 2030, seeking to reduce industrial emissions while improving energy efficiency in major industries. The initiative will also strengthen green skills development across key sectors of the economy.
Officials from both countries signed the agreement during a gathering attended by Yeonjean Yoon, South Korea’s Ambassador to Morocco, KOICA Country Director Hyewon Cho and AMEE Director General Mohamed Benyahia.
KOICA stated that the programme will support Morocco’s shift toward an industrial sector, adding that will also strengthen workforce capacity and encourage the adoption of sustainable industrial practices.
The KOICA and AMEE will collaborate with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation and the International Labour Organisation in a bid to implement the terms of the project. Through this partnership, the institutions will bring forth technical expertise, policy support and workforce training.
The agreement further signals broader cooperation between Morocco and South Korea in energy efficiency and sustainable development in recent times.
Morocco has intensified efforts to decarbonise its industrial sector to improve competitiveness. The nation launched its renewable energy strategy in 2009 to expand green power and position itself as a regional leader in renewable deployment.
Meanwhile, it continues to strengthen international partnerships to finance decarbonisation. In 2024, OCP Group signed an agreement with Bpifrance and the French Development Agency to support industrial decarbonisation and sustainable agriculture.
The partnership created a €50 million investment fund through Bpifrance and Innovx, an affiliate of Mohammed VI Polytechnic University. The fund aims to support startups, SMEs and mid-sized companies across Africa, particularly in agriculture, agri-food and green energy sectors.
