The agreement signifies Zambia’s efforts to expand renewable energy capacity and attract private investment while supporting long-term electricity supply diversification and sustainable development.

Zambia has signed an implementation agreement for a 16MW solar power project in Ndola, paving the way for the development of new renewable energy capacity and reinforcing efforts to attract private investment into the country’s electricity sector.
The Northrise Solar PV Project, being developed by Lifesong for Orphans Zambia Ltd in the Twapia area of Ndola, is expected to commence operations in July following the conclusion of the agreement with the government.
The implementation agreement grants the developer the rights to proceed with the project while establishing a framework for risk allocation between the government and the company, a move intended to strengthen investor confidence and facilitate project execution.
According to Lifesong for Orphans Zambia, more than US$12 million has already been invested in the first phase of the development, which will deliver 16MW of solar generation capacity.
The organisation also plans to expand the project through a second phase that will add a further 35MW, significantly increasing its contribution to Zambia’s renewable energy mix.
Lifesong for Orphans is a non-profit organisation that operates six schools in Zambia and has diversified into renewable energy development as part of its broader community and infrastructure initiatives.
The Northrise Solar PV Project forms part of Zambia’s wider strategy to increase electricity generation from renewable sources, improve energy security and encourage greater participation by private investors in the country’s power sector.
Once completed, the project is expected to contribute to efforts to diversify Zambia’s energy supply while supporting economic development and reducing reliance on conventional generation sources.
