African heads of state, including the presidents of The Gambia and Equatorial Guinea, have confirmed their participation in the 2026 Nigeria International Energy Summit, scheduled to take place in Abuja from February 2 to 5.
Among the confirmed leaders are Adama Barrow and Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo. Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to host the event as chief host, according to organisers.
Now in its ninth edition, the summit is officially endorsed by the Nigerian government and brings together policymakers, energy companies, investors and development finance institutions to discuss energy security, investment flows and Africa’s evolving energy mix.
Organisers said the 2026 edition will convene senior government officials and energy stakeholders from Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the Americas, alongside representatives of international energy organisations and host communities.
The summit is expected to focus on issues including oil and gas development, energy transition strategies, regional cooperation and investment mobilisation, as African countries seek to balance energy security with economic growth and climate commitments.
NIES 2026 will be held under the theme “Energy for Peace and Prosperity: Securing Our Shared Future.”
