Government agency vows to boost solar energy and secure national fuel supplies to mark 66th Independence Day.

The Energy Commission of Nigeria pledged to expand clean energy access and build national energy security across the country through new solar projects to mark Nigeria's 66th Independence Anniversary.
Dr Mustapha Abdullahi, Director General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, pledged to advance energy transition plans by backing President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda through the Renewed Hope Solarisation Programme.
The Energy Commission of Nigeria serves as the government agency responsible for planning and coordinating national energy policy.
The Renewed Hope Solarisation Programme focuses on expanding clean electricity to citizens while building national energy security.
Dr Abdullahi stated that managing national energy resources directly drives economic growth, improves daily livelihoods, and creates fresh opportunities for citizens.
Call for unity and national action
Dr Abdullahi stated that 66 years of national independence shows the resilience, sacrifices, and belief of citizens in the potential of the country.
He explained that Nigeria has made progress since gaining independence but needs renewed unity to achieve national development targets.
"The Nigeria we desire is possible. Nations that are great today were once laying their foundations. We too can rise, compete and lead among the world's greatest nations, and even surpass them," the Commission said.
The agency head asked citizens to practice patriotism and collective responsibility to build a stronger country.
The agency emphasised that national energy security forms a core national priority for economic progress.
Energy security means ensuring that a country has a constant, reliable, and affordable supply of fuel and electricity for its everyday needs.
The Commission explained that future progress depends on citizens working together to turn belief into practical action.
Sustained commitment to energy transition will help the country overcome development struggles and improve international business competitiveness.
The Energy Commission urged Nigerians to stay hopeful and united as the country builds its energy network.
Dr Abdullahi noted that building national strength requires continuous teamwork across all sections of society.
The agency will continue executing clean energy plans to help the country achieve its economic potential.
