Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has restored electricity supply to all areas affected by a system disturbance that caused widespread outages across the country on Thursday, August 20.
The disturbance occurred at about 4:30 a.m., disrupting power supply to several areas and prompting an immediate response from GRIDCo engineers and other technical teams within the power sector.
GRIDCo said restoration efforts began immediately after the incident, with teams working to progressively bring the transmission system back to normal operation.
According to GRIDCo, electricity supply had been restored to all affected areas by 12:03 p.m., about eight hours after the disturbance occurred.
The company did not disclose the cause of the system disturbance or provide details on the specific areas affected by the outage.
GRIDCo added that its technical teams remained focused on restoring supply while ensuring the stability of the transmission network during the recovery process.
The quick restoration illustrates the importance of the transmission network in maintaining continuity of electricity supply, particularly when unexpected system disturbances affect the national grid.
GRIDCo thanked members of the public and other stakeholders for their patience and cooperation during the disruption.
