NNPC Gas Output Rises as OB3, AKK Pipelines Near Delivery

Nigeria's gas production has received another lift in June as NNPC Limited increased output to 7.841 million standard cubic feet per day from 7.774 million in May. The company reported that the OB3 Gas Pipeline is 98 per cent complete and the AKK Gas Pipeline has reached 94 per cent completion.

The June Monthly Financial and Operations Report also showed a profit after tax of ₦535 billion, revenue of ₦4.389 trillion and progress on projects designed to expand domestic gas supply.

The increase in gas production follows continued work on gas infrastructure meant to supply more fuel to homes, industries and power generation.

The near completion of the OB3 and AKK pipelines places both projects close to the next stage of gas delivery, with the OB3 line scheduled to begin operations in August and the AKK pipeline set to supply Abuja later this year.

Gas infrastructure edges closer to operation

NNPC said gas production rose during June, extending the upward trend recorded in recent months. The company stated that the increase supports efforts to expand gas supply within Nigeria as part of the country's energy transition programme.

The Obiafu Obrikom Oben Gas Pipeline reached 98 per cent completion during the month. Final tie in works are ongoing before gas delivery begins in August 2026.

Progress also continued on the Ajaokuta Kaduna Kano Gas Pipeline, which has now reached 94 per cent completion. Once operational, the pipeline will begin supplying gas to Abuja later this year.

NNPC stated that the projects are intended to improve domestic gas use, strengthen energy security and support industrial activities within the country.

Profit rises as oil output records slight decline

Alongside the increase in gas production, NNPC posted a profit after tax of ₦535 billion in June. The figure represents a 15.8 per cent increase from the ₦462 billion recorded in May.

Revenue for the month stood at ₦4.389 trillion. The report also showed that cumulative statutory remittances to the Federation Account between January and June 2026 reached ₦6.286 trillion.

Crude oil and condensate production, however, recorded a slight decline during the month. Output fell to 1.72 million barrels per day in June from 1.73 million barrels per day in May.

NNPC attributed the reduction to operational disruptions, facility integrity challenges and subsurface issues affecting some production assets.

The June report presents a picture of higher gas output, improving earnings and continued construction work on two major gas pipelines that are approaching completion.
