The new climate policy is aimed at encouraging businesses to adopt environmentally friendly practices, reduce waste, and foster green jobs.

The Tanzania National Business Council, Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (TNCC) has launched its 2026 Environment and Climate Change Policy, aimed at promoting sustainable, climate-smart business practices across the country.
Speaking during the launch, TNCC President Vicent Minja described the policy as a key tool to position the private sector as a driver of environmental solutions while maintaining its central role in Tanzania’s economic growth.
“The policy provides a foundation for sustainable business practices, ensuring economic development progresses in harmony with environmental conservation and efficient use of natural resources,” Minja said.
He explained that the initiative encourages companies to invest in environmentally friendly enterprises, reduce waste, and actively participate in addressing climate change.
The launch also recognised companies adopting inclusive business models and the circular economy approach. Awardees included Catherin Fidolin, founder of Lima Africa, which converts agricultural waste into raw materials through partnerships with women and youth in Geita, Pemba, Mwanza and Tanga regions.
Other innovators highlighted included Taliq Mangachi of Primo Maggoto Farm Products, who uses waste to produce eco-friendly products, and Mariamu Shadrack from Nipe Fagio, which creates organic fertiliser from fruit and cassava waste in Ubungo District. These initiatives were praised for generating employment opportunities for young people while promoting environmental protection.
Minja emphasised that transforming waste into raw materials is among the most effective strategies to protect the environment and create jobs.
“Proper management allows waste to become valuable economic resources,” he said.
